the AGM, marking the end of the 2009 KOA season, it was announced that
the total sum raised for Cecily’s Fund was £25,056.14. Cecily’s Fund
works with children in Zambia who have been orphaned because of HIV and
AIDS and the money donated by Kennington will pay for “Peer Educators”
to go into schools and teach children about HIV infection and its
prevention. In accepting the cheque the chairman of the charity told us
that 50 young people would be trained as educators and the lives of at
least 7000 children would be touched. He said that he was overwhelmed
by the efforts of the people of Kennington and said a very sincere
thank you to everyone in the village who had contributed in any way.
The KOA committee are also very grateful for the wonderful support of
so many people.
We now start to think about 2010, which will be
KOA’s 42nd year. There will be a meeting on Thursday January 14th, at
8pm, in St. Swithun’s Church Hall, when next year’s project will be
selected. The three proposals
are now available and if you would like a copy on paper please contact
one of us. Anyone can come to the meeting and vote, so do come along
and have your say.
