AGM Report 2008

On Dec 4th the AGM and final meeting of the year for Kennington Overseas Aid was held. We eagerly awaited the result of all those fundraising efforts. 2008 was a special year for KOA. It was the fortieth year and it proved to be a record-breaking one. Many of the events broke previous records and the final total of 26,017 exceeded all expectations. The money was raised to support Medic Assist International in a project to build and equip a children’s ward in the hospital at Golo in Sudan. It will also pay for a medical team for the ward for the first year.

John Earwicker from MAI was overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Kennington. MAI and KOA would like to thank all who organised and supported events throughout the year to achieve this marvellous result.

After many years of devoted service as KOA treasurer, David Butler retired at a highpoint of his work and was enthusiastically thanked by Chairman Clive Rodgers and all present. He received a brilliant cartoon portrait by KOA’s resident artist, Philip Martin.

A new chairperson, Sylvia Vetta, and Vice Chair, Brenda Groth were elected for 2009. Clive Rodgers is the new treasurer.

At the next meeting of KOA in January we will vote to select next year’s project and begin to plan events for 2009. All are welcome to come along and vote. Further details from Sylvia (739071) or Brenda (739229)
