Annual Report 2000

At the AGM on Friday November 10th, KOA had great pleasure in presenting a large cheque to Rodney Mearns , local coordinator for CWARS.  Rodney told us about his visit this summer to Cambodia, and gave a very moving account of the work that CWARS is involved in.  He told us about the rehabilitation and retraining centre to be set up with the money raised by Kennington, in conjunction with a Cambodia Trust artificial limb fitting centre..  It is very gratifying to know that through the generosity and support of the people of Kennington this project is underway.

We have had an extraordinary year, raising around £3000 more than the last few years.  CWARS seems to have struck a chord with Kennington!  The year started with a surprise, when the Millennium Service collection was for KOA, even though our project had not been chosen that time!  The House to House Collection raised a record sum–£300 more than last year–a sign of things to come.  Rev Terry Smith included KOA among the projects to benefit from his London Marathon fund raising, and raised the superb sum of £1000 for CWARS.  The United Choirs always contributes an outstanding sum, but this year they excelled themselves – raising nearly £4000 from two very enjoyable performances of La Vie Parisienne.  Other events also did well, the Street Collection raised a record sum for a Wednesday collection, the Fete and the Shop kept up their good results of last year –  Well done everyone!
